The Mississauga Halton Central Intake Program has selected Novari eRequest™ as its software platform as it moves to implement electronic eReferrals with a central intake capability.
Oakville, April 4, 2014: The referral process in Canada between and among physicians and clinics is almost exclusively paper based. This current state does not meet the needs of referring physicians, the services receiving referrals and most importantly, patients. The Mississauga Halton Central Intake Program is a LHIN funded initiative under the umbrella of Halton Healthcare Services (HHS). The Central Intake Program has a mandate to improve access to care for patients receiving diabetes and mental health and addiction services.
In the area of diabetes care, the Central Intake Program has worked with physicians and diabetes education programs within the Mississauga Halton LHIN to standardize the referral process. Collectively, a common referral form has been agreed upon along with referral routing protocols.
This work completed, the next step was to assess, procure and implement an eReferral technology. A Request for Quotations (RFQ) was issued by Halton Healthcare Services on behalf of the Mississauga Halton Central Intake Program. The Novari eRequest™ system from Kingston based Novari Health was selected as the platform for the Central Intake Program to move from a fax based system to electronic eReferrals. The system is flexible and customizable enough to manage any type of “request” for any type of healthcare service. The initial focus will be diabetes referrals quickly followed by mental health and addictions with the vision of expanding to include other chronic disease referral pathways in the near future.
“We are very excited about our partnership with Novari to create and implement a fully functioning electronic referral system. An eReferral solution will address some of the major gaps caused by the current paper based system. The solution will be a key enabler to increasing efficiency in referral management and improving access to care for chronic disease programs.” – Nala Sriharan, Manager, Mississauga Halton Central Intake Program
John Sinclair”As a national leader in access to care systems, we like all healthcare providers know that the paper and fax referral processes in Canada just don’t work nearly as well as they should.
